"Sasha Kukin Dance Company" was founded in September 1990 and became the first professional modern dance company in Russia.
During the first years of its activity the company made a great contribution to the formation and development of modern dance in St.-Petersburg as well as in Russia in general. Some Russian dance companies were created only because their future leaders had seen first "SKDC" performances.

In spite of a lack of any financial support, which is the characteristic feature of most Russian modern dance companies, SKDC created 23 programs, frequently performed in St.-Petersburg and outside, and participated in many international dance festivals, ADF in 1996 is among them.
Recently the company has been using more theatre devices than before, however, the main objective of the company's activity is always to be creating, developing and changing its own dance language.
